I have no plan or rather money yet to get an upgrade in the form of an iPod Classic but as early as now, I am thinking of how I’ll take care of that new Apple baby. La reciente solicitud de patentes de Apple apunta a transformar al iPod en un sustituto del GPS. Según la revista AppleInsider, el concepto de Apple es un software que incluirá a 4 componentes esenciales que permitirán a los usuarios pedir direcciones desde un punto de partida hasta un destino. La respuesta a tales pedidos será dada en forma de “podcast”, lo cual significa que las instrucciones serán habladas, además de los mapas visuales que serán enviados.
Inicialmente bautizados como ‘podmaps’, este nuevo concepto de Apple se describe de la siguiente manera:
• el usuario se conecta a un servidor remoto antes de su viaje, y le dice donde quiere ir.
• el servidor crea un archivo de video o de audio, así como imágenes de mapas, y luego envía esto al usuario.
• el usuario carga esto en su iPod y lo escucha antes de abandonar la casa o mientras maneja.
Ésta puede ser la razón por la cual Apple no ha lanzado aún ningún aparato con capacidades de GPS. Parece un concepto inteligente, pero hasta que llegue el lanzamiento del “podmap”, quédate mejor con el GPS de tu teléfono.

Ellos tuvieron ese servicio pero siempre hubo un tiempo limitado de horas con respecto a tu plan de suscripción. Por el contrario, el servicio de alquileres de iTunes va a ser de $3.99 por 24 horas de alquiler. La compañía que ya domina el mercado de los alquileres de películas por Internet intenta seguir en la cima de ese negocio. Mientras tanto, el retador iTunes tiene la mayor parte del mercado de las bajadas de música, y está ahora metiéndose en el negocio de las películas más abiertamente en simultaneidad con nuevos aparatos como el iPod Touch y el iPod Nano con video, que solamente serán compatibles con su servicio (iTunes). Estos alquileres de películas de iTunes fueron anunciados por Steve Jobs en el Macworld. La competencia en el mercado de bajadas por Internet hace que todo sea mejor para el cliente, con más opciones y menos monopolio.
