TechWeb’s Internet Evolution Launches iPhone Application Idea Contest

Submit your best idea for an iPhone application to Internet Evolution to win $500

NEW YORK, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ — TechWeb’s Internet Evolution, a Web 2.0 site dedicated to investigating the future of the Internet, has launched a contest inviting readers to come up with their best ideas for an application for the Apple iPhone. The winner will be awarded a $500 American Express gift card.

The iPhone App Store, a digital store available via iTunes, is home to more than 10,000 downloadable iPhone applications, which leverage some or all of the iPhone technology, including its touch interface, GPS, accelerometer, and 3D positional audio.

“Apple is clearly spearheading the mobile revolution with the iPhone,” said Internet Evolution Editor in Chief Terry Sweeney. “This is due in no small part to the success of its App Store.”

The contest will run until February 27, 2009, and ideas will be judged by members of the Internet Evolution staff.

iPhone App Store Downloads Top 10 Million in First Weekend

more than 10 million applications from its groundbreaking new App Store
since its launch late last week. Developers have created a wide array of
innovative mobile applications ranging from games to location-based social

Apple Sells One Million iPhone 3Gs in First Weekend

CUPERTINO, Calif., July 14 — Apple(R) today
announced it sold its one millionth iPhone(TM) 3G on Sunday, just three
days after its launch on Friday, July 11. iPhone 3G is now available in 21
countries — Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland,
Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New
Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and the US — and
will go on sale in France on July 17.

“iPhone 3G had a stunning opening weekend,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s
CEO. “It took 74 days to sell the first one million original iPhones, so
the new iPhone 3G is clearly off to a great start around the world.”

The new iPhone 3G combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone
plus 3G networking that is twice as fast*, built-in GPS for expanded
location-based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes
support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs over 800 third party
applications available through the new App Store. In the US, the new iPhone
3G is priced at just $199 for the 8GB model, and $299 for the 16GB model**.

Apple: iPod Shuffle Price drops to $49; new 2GB Model at $69

Apple has dropped the price of the iPod Shuffle to $49 (from $79) today. The $49 iPod Shuffle stores 1GB of songs or up to 240 songs in 128-Kbps AAC format. Meanwhile, a new 2GB model has also been introduced at $69.

“At just $49, the iPod shuffle is the most affordable iPod ever,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPod Product Marketing. “The new 2GB model lets music lovers bring even more songs everywhere they go in the impossibly small iPod shuffle.”

The Shuffle is still available in the same colors: silver, blue, green, purple and red. The 2GB model won’t be available until later this month.

iTunes: American Idol Exclusively on the Apple Music Store

Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox Interactive Media, 19 Entertainment, FremantleMedia and Apple, for the first time, have partnered to bring music fans all of the contestant performances from Season Seven of television’s most popular show exclusively on the iTunes Store. Kicking off with the “American Idol” Top 24 semifinalists this week, customers can purchase music performances for 99 cents per song, and viewers will be able to purchase the full video of Top 12 finalist performances for $1.99, starting March 11.
