Does the Format War end with Apple TV?
There is a sinful gluttony involved in personal entertainment. Every consumer wants the biggest movie and audio collection, in the best format available (HD DVD or Blu-Ray). But there is another way with Pay-Per View and hard-drives and guess what, Apple TV offers both. The coolest thing about storing data on hard-drives is that you never have to worry about scratches and storage cabinets. Mr. Steve Jobs thought about it before the people at Toshiba (HD-DVD) and Sony (Blu-Ray), and with the new technologies of faster communications I am assuming the Hard-Drives will just end up as a portable hard-drive and the Internet is going to be the main drive. Nobody downloads videos anymore as they are mostly on You-Tube (which is now present as a pre-eminent feature in the Apple TV). Apple TV is a very intelligent product, which might just defeat the purpose of the HD DVD and Blu-Ray player you just bought, at a cheaper price. It streams the Audio and Video over the iTunes store straight to your TV. I mean you would not need the car for blockbuster and also mailbox for netflix. The prices for rentals are 2.99 to 3.99 on the movies with HD versions for $1 more than the regular price. It will automatically sync it all back to your Computer which syncs them to your iPod and your iPhone and to your laptops and to your Time Capsule and to you…phew… and Microsoft came with the Sync technology, whatever. Apple has already got major movie houses and TV broadcasting deals under its belt for higher variety of selection. Go bust that mailbox with that baseball bat…BAAM!!!
