Second gen iPhone in Sept: Rumormongers are having the best of iPhone fever

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007
Of course, what you see up there is nothing but a ‘not-so-cheap’ imagination of what a mini iPhone might look like. Interesting, to say the least. Rumors about a mini version of the iPhone hitting the shelves by September are at their roaring best again. News is abuzz that Taiwan-based Wintek has received orders for making the touch screen panels of the next gen iPhone. Estimated to range between $ 249 - $ 299, this one’s expected (or rather imagined) to be a rather cute version of the original and is intended to come out at the same time as the touch screen version of the iPod, another Apple mega-seller. As per some techno-analysts, September is way too early. (more…)

Transformers: The Japanese way of throwing surprises

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

Now, considering that Japan is soon to become synonymous with innovation and creativity with all the cool stuff that the Japanese intelligentsia keep coming up with day after day, it’s nothing but obvious that if real transformers existed, they had to be in Japan. Well, the fact is that it’s true, well, at least partly. The robot you see above, from a Japanese robotic competition, can actually transform from car mode to robot mode…cool init? It’s great to have a slice of a great movie in real life, and this one’s sure going to be something you dig as it’s of a movie that was as cool as it could get. Of course its as tiny as a robot could possibly be, but what would actually set this apart from being a regular, commercial or rather popular item is the lack of funding and of course the fact that something 10 times the size of this could not be cool, I guess just plain scary. TalkAbroad by National Geographic: One phone, one number, one world

Monday, July 16th, 2007

Of course nobody knows geography the way National Geographic does. Then, obviously nobody can connect the world better than the National Geographic. So you see, what I’m about to talk about now is not something that National Geographic wasn’t already capable off, but its definitely something that’ll make you happy that it finally made it (well, at least partly happy). You may no longer need to wait hours on end hoping to hook-up the cheapest local card so that your family or that special someone somewhere in the world can reach you while you’re busy gallivanting on that much-too unavoidable business trip. Moreover, with cell phone service providers charging a bomb for every call and also every voicemail (that’s the worst part, when that bozo at college calls; you’re at a loss when he leaves you that not-so-welcome long voicemail). Well, now the good news is, with the TalkAbroad Travel Phone by National Geographic, you can just keep (more…)

Belkin N1 Vision: Network Information in a flash

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

At first glance, the Belkin N1 Vision looks like just any router. Just like its counterparts, this gadget connects networks together. The device supports 802.11n draft 2.0 with its 4 Gigabit ports. But a second look at N1 Vision reveals it is much more. For control freaks who are anxious over network information (broadband speed, computer bandwidth usage, connection status, transfer speed, etc.), the Belkin N1 Vision router offers an LCD display showing all these vital statistics. Plus the gadget can be installed through a simple Plug-and-Play process without any CD setup. The network security setup with multiple SSID is just as simple. The Belkin N1 Vision will hit the market soon; suggested retail price is $200. Certainly a valuable deal for any suspicious networker and security freak out there. (SePh)

iPhones and iPods to chat wirelessly? Well, with Apple’s new patent, they just might

Friday, July 13th, 2007

If you’re a complete gadgets freak and you are living as of ‘now’, what would be the two greatest electronic gadgets according to you that you just couldn’t live without? Well, I’m sure you don’t need to think that much, coz we are obviously talking about the iPod and iPhone, supposedly the most sought-after gadgets of the 21st century. Now what if they could communicate with each other? I know that’s not something that would make you scream in wonder, (more…)

Who cares about a laptop, just carry your shades

Friday, July 13th, 2007

Well Oakley definitely made blue-tooth-based shades lately. Well, that takes care of my voicemail, but what about my e-mail. That’s going to be taken care of too! What I’m talking about is the new Head Mounted Display i.e. a computer monitor embedded in your sunglasses from none other than Olympus. Just like your cool pair of shades. Just make sure to take them off before you get into a fight. You don’t want to loose something as useful as this. Well it has a display rich with 110,000 pixels in each lens, left and right. I wish it comes with a widescreen though… but what makes for a part cushion if it does not, is the internal battery that’s part of the package. Hope there’s no bulky earring kind off battery that I got to painfully hook up to my ears. Now that would spoil it, wouldn’t it? All the excitement apart, you got to wait till 2012 for this (more…)

Yaskawa’s Motoman DIA10: Scaring the mailboys away

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

Well, as if robots taking over your doctors and construction workers weren’t enough, you might soon be entering DHL and Fedex stores only to be greeted by the plastic grin of a robot sorting your mail. You think that’s funny? Well, if Yaskawa has its way, it won’t be. The Yaskawa Motoman DIA10 can sort a supposedly impressive 1000 pieces of mail in under one hour. Time effective, huh? They say, it’s meant to provide backup for your mail-workers, but think about it, would a company (more…)
